English Bulldog - Folds of sagging skin cover the English Bulldogs’ face and short muzzle to provide this breed a characteristically sullen expression, most popularly recognized as a frown. The English Bulldog has a smooth, short coat, appearing in color combinations of red, fawn, brindle, pale yellow, or white. A compact build, composed of short, sturdy legs and a robust torso, enforces an enduringly, waddle-like gait, accentuated by a short tail and proportionally small, thin ears folding back in the shape of a rose. Despite this breed’s somewhat intimidating stature, English Bulldogs are generally known as extremely gentle, calm dogs, making great pets in homes with or without children or other types of pets. Reliable and steadfast, the English Bulldog can be easily trained. They have a tendency to grow considerably attached to their owners, and demonstrate a loyal, sometimes possessive, temperament. Originating in England, this descendant of the Asiatic mastiff was once used in the now illegal sport of bull-baiting, valued for their aggressive persistence when in the fighting arena. Growing to reach 12-16” in height at 45-55lbs. once fully mature, the average English Bulldog lives to reach approximately 8 years of age.
